Chief and Council met with planning consultants on June 5, 2025 to begin the process of developing a five-year community plan that will reflect the vision and the goals of DOKIS FIRST NATION. The consultants were contracted through a competitive Request-for-Proposals process that was completed in April and May. The selected consultant is Miikana Consulting. They are an Indigenous-owned and operated collective that prioritizes strategic services to Indigenous communities and organizations.

The Miikana team will spend the next few months working closely with Chief and Council, Directors, staff, committees, Elders, youth, and all community members to collect feedback and recommendations that will inform the development of a community plan. Throughout this time, community members will have opportunity to participate in open meetings, surveys, and workshops. Everyone is encouraged to share their thoughts and priorities for the community.

Updates on the community planning process will be found right here! You’ll also see updates on the Dokis First Nation (Official) Facebook page, and in the monthly newsletter. Dates and details for community sessions will be posted as they are scheduled, and you can always leave comments and feedback in the “Ideas and Suggestions” form below.

What is a Community Plan?
A community plan is a shared vision and roadmap created by and for the community. It outlines what Dokis wants to achieve for its future, covering important areas like:

  • economic development;
  • culture;
  • land use; and
  • well-being.

A plan sets out clear goals and defines how to reach them, together.

Why Does a Community Plan Matter?
This plan will be an intentional way for everyone in Dokis to have their say in the future of the community. We want to make sure all voices are heard and valued. It will also help build a stronger, healthier future for Dokis by establishing guiding decisions and actions.

How Will People Be Able to Participate?
An inclusive process will provide everyone with an opportunity to contribute. There will be various ways to participate, including community meetings, workshops, surveys, and opportunities to share ideas directly with the planning team. The process will be accessible and welcoming for all members, including youth, Elders, and families. Everyone’s input is vital to making this plan truly reflective of the community’s aspirations.
